3
Keys to Book Publishing Success
by Anthony Obey
IF you are writing or considering
writing a book this message is just for you. True success as an author is
attainable for every one of us. We simply have to do the things to be successful
that the successful people do. We can't put forth half the effort and get the
whole reward. To be a successful author is an earned position. It can be great
fun and it can be very rewarding as a part-time business but you have to work
hard and work smart if you want to succeed in it just as with anything else.
There are a few keys that the very successful and even famous authors have used
and still use to advance their career.
1. They know their market. If you want to become one of the big authors out
there then you have first got to become keenly aware of who specifically your
market is. There are many niches' that are not yet filled in the world that are
just waiting for someone to become the authority in that arena. For example,
Marita and Florence Litteaur wrote a book some years ago called Personality
Plus. Since then they have just about created a market and they stand as the
authority on educating people on temperaments and how they affect our lives.
2. Choose a writing topic that you will commit to promoting for at least 2
years. You have to be prudent about what you choose to write about and the exact
angle you want to take on that issue. Maybe you want to write about getting into
business. You can talk more inspirationally about pursuing your dream business
or you can talk more about the technicalities of business. You need to make the
decision on exactly what you want to commit 2 years or more talking about. If
you want to be more inspirational and share business success stories then you
need to take that route because to promote your book you will need to draw from
the book which will take time, energy, and creativity to do over at least a 2
year period. This, of course, is for the writer who wants to be successful!
3. Write out goals before you write the first line of your manuscript. To be
successful in the writing business or any business for that matter, you have got
to know your ultimate goal. What is the absolute end that you are trying to
reach? What ever that end is, start from there then work backwards. For example,
you may want to write a book to at risk youth. Well this may be a topic you can
get government money to write about You know who you want to reach, you then
have to identify whether you want to reach at risk youth on a city, state,
regional, or national scale. Once you identify this, you have to see how your
goals match up with the goals of specific grants that you might qualify for
which will certainly be worth the proper planning because this could help the
success of your book by a large margin. So before you start writing, figure out
what you want to accomplish, what you want the book to accomplish, and what you
want each section and feature of the book to accomplish.
If you do these 3 things you will be on your way to the top. Of course, there
are so many other things that will help you be successful but easy does it. Just
take 3 keys at a time and you'll end up at the brink of your dreams in no time!
